Updating Breaking News: Two dead, two critically injured after a two-vehicle collision in Marion County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision yesterday in Marion County that resulted in the death of two passengers and critical injuries to the two drivers.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 4:50 pm, a pickup truck driven by a 54-year-old Dunnellon man was traveling northbound on U.S. 41. At the same time, a sedan driven by a 51-year-old Beverly Hills woman was traveling southbound on U.S. 41.

As they approached, the first vehicle went off the roadway to the right, lost control, and began to rotate while traveling toward the southbound lane of U.S. 41. The second vehicle collided with it.

An occupant of the first vehicle was ejected.

The pickup truck came to final rest, obstructing the southbound lane of U.S. 41.

The sedan came to final rest on the west shoulder of U.S. 41, facing in a southerly direction.

The driver of the first vehicle was taken to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital with critical injuries. The ejected occupant of the first vehicle (a 55-year-old Dunnellon woman) was pronounced deceased on scene by Marion County Fire Rescue.

The driver of the second vehicle was taken to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital with critical injuries. The passenger of the second vehicle (a 16-year-old girl from Beverly Hills) was taken to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital and was later pronounced deceased by hospital staff.

The FHP did not release the names of the drivers or the passengers involved in the collision.
