Breaking News Overnight: Driver dies after collision with tractor-trailer in Osceola County

Posted

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision this morning in Osceola County that resulted in the death of a driver.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 1:02 am, a 39-year-old Orlando woman driving a 2012 Chevrolet Captiva Sport (SUV) was traveling southbound on Florida's Turnpike, approaching Mile Marker 202 in the inside lane.

At the same time, a 66-year-old North Lauderdale man driving a 2019 semi-truck (tractor-trailer) was traveling southbound on Florida's Turnpike, approaching Mile Marker 202 in the outside lane.

As the two vehicles approached, the SUV had a blowout, which caused it to run off the roadway left onto the left shoulder and collided with the center guardrail. The impact caused the vehicle to run off the roadway to the right. The SUV was partially in the outside lane, facing southwest on the outside shoulder and in the direct path of the tractor-trailer.

The SUV driver exited the vehicle. As a result, the tractor-trailer collided with the SUV and its driver, which caused the tractor-trailer to run off the roadway right and onto the outside shoulder, collide with a cable barrier, and overturn into a ditch.

The SUV driver was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash.

According to the report, the tractor-trailer driver did not report any injuries to the FHP and remained on the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.

The FHP did not release the names of the drivers involved in the collision.
