Breaking News Overnight: FHP arrests hit-and-run driver after fatal collision with a bicyclist in Manatee County.

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a bicyclist hit and killed by a sport utility vehicle this morning in Manatee County.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 2:30 am, a sport utility vehicle driven by a 21-year-old Bradenton man was traveling north on US-41 (14th Street West), north of the intersection of 66th Avenue West.

At the same time, a 41-year-old Bradenton man (riding a bicycle with no lighting) was traveling north on US-41 (14th Street West) directly in front of the SUV.

As it approached, the front of the SUV collided with the bicyclist.

After the collision, the bicyclist was pronounced deceased on the scene, while the SUV driver fled the crash scene.

The Bradenton Police Department later initiated a traffic stop on the hit-and-run vehicle with front-end damage consistent with this crash.

After an extensive investigation, the driver was arrested for leaving the scene of a traffic crash involving death and booked into the Manatee County Jail.

The crash remains under investigation.
