Breaking News this Morning: Pedestrian hit and killed by vehicle in Lake County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a collision in Lake County this morning that resulted in the death of a pedestrian.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 4:07 am, a 58-year-old Polk City woman driving a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling westbound on State Road 40 west of Blue Creek Lodge Road.

At the same time, a 26-year-old Umatilla man was standing in the westbound lane on SR-40, west of Blue Creek Lodge Road.

As it approached, the Jeep swerved left to avoid colliding with the pedestrian. As a result, the right side of the vehicle collided with the man, who was pronounced deceased on the scene.

The driver reported no injuries to the FHP, according to the report.

 

This crash remains under investigation.

The FHP did not release the names of the driver or the pedestrian.
