Updating Breaking News: Driver dies after a single-vehicle collision in Marion County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a single-vehicle collision yesterday in Marion County that resulted in the death of the driver.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 5:47 pm, a Toyota Corolla driven by a 73-year-old Ocala man was traveling southbound on State Road 35 just north of NE 24th Street when the Corolla left the roadway onto the west grassy shoulder. 

The Corolla traveled southerly on the west shoulder and entered the wood line, where the front of the Corolla struck a tree.

The driver was pronounced deceased on the scene by Marion County Fire Rescue.

The crash is under investigation.

The FHP did not release the name of the driver.
