Breaking News Overnight: Pedestrian hit and killed by SUV in Brevard County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a collision last night in Brevard County that resulted in the death of a pedestrian.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 10:21 pm, a 57-year-old Merritt Island woman driving a 2017 Chevrolet Traverse sport utility vehicle was traveling northbound on Banana River Drive approaching Central Avenue.

At the same time, a 29-year-old Merritt Island man was lying in the northbound lane of Banana River Drive in the direct path of the vehicle. As a result, the SUV collided with the man and then ran off the roadway.

The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver reported no injuries to the FHP.

The crash remains under investigation.

The FHP did not release the name of the driver or the pedestrian involved in the collision.
