Breaking Morning News: Driver dies after a two-vehicle collision in Brevard County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision this morning in Brevard County that resulted in the death of a driver.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 9:13 am, a 37-year-old Melbourne man driving a 2019 Ford Mustang was traveling northbound on Interstate 95, approaching mile marker 180 (US Highway 192) in the outside lane.

At the same time, a 53-year-old Palm Bay man driving a Freightliner Tractor-Trailer was traveling northbound on I-95, approaching mile marker 180 in the outside lane, traveling ahead of the Mustang.

According to witnesses on the scene, the Mustang driver was traveling above the posted speed limit and failed to observe the tractor-trailer ahead. As a result, it collided with the rear of the tractor-trailer and came to a final rest under the trailer.  

The driver of the first vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene of the collision. The tractor-trailer driver reported no injuries to the FHP.

The crash remains under investigation.

The FHP did not release the names of the drivers involved in the crash.
