Updating Breaking News: Multi-vehicle collision in Suwannee County kills passenger

Posted

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a three-vehicle collision this morning in Suwannee County that resulted in the death of a passenger.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 7:40 am, a 2017 Kia Forte driven by a 30-year-old McAlpin woman was traveling south on US Highway 129. At the same time, a 2023 Toyota Camry driven by a 76-year-old McAlpin man was traveling south on US Highway 129 ahead of the first vehicle. A third vehicle, a 2015 Ram 1500 driven by a 38-year-old Branford man, was traveling north on US Highway 129.

As they approached, the second vehicle began slowing for an animal within the roadway. The first vehicle did not slow in time, causing the front to collide with the rear of the second vehicle. The initial collision with the first vehicle caused the second vehicle to be redirected into the oncoming path of the third vehicle. This caused the front of the third vehicle to collide with the front of the second vehicle.

Both the second and third vehicles came to final rest within the northbound travel lanes of US Highway 129. The first vehicle continued a short distance south, leaving the roadway on the west shoulder before coming to final rest in the west grass ditch.

A passenger in the second vehicle, a 96-year-old McAlpin woman, was pronounced deceased at the scene of this crash. The driver was seriously injured, according to the report.

This investigation is ongoing at this time.

The FHP did not release the names of the drivers or passengers involved in the collision.

This is an update of breaking news and may be updated again if more details are known.
