Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a collision in Sarasota County yesterday that resulted in the death of a motorcyclist.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 5:45 pm, a 21-year-old Venice man riding a motorcycle was traveling north, on the right lane on SR 776 (Englewood Road) approaching Temple Road.
At the same time, a 47-year-old Englewood man driving a sport utility vehicle was traveling south on Englewood Road, passing Temple Road.
As they approached, the motorcycle traveled across all northbound lanes and failed to negotiate a curve, entered the grass median, and collided with a tree.
After the collision, crash debris collided with the SUV.
The motorcycle came to rest within the grass median. The motorcyclist was ejected from the motorcycle and was pronounced deceased on the scene.
The SUV driver did not report any injuries to the FHP.
The crash remains under investigation.
The FHP did not release the names of the SUV driver or the motorcyclist.
