Breaking News Overnight: One dead, one injured after a two-vehicle collision in Charlotte County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision in Charlotte County yesterday that resulted in the death of a driver.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 4:40 pm, a 59-year-old Ft. Myers woman driving a sport utility vehicle was traveling west on County Road 74 (Bermont Road), approaching the intersection of State Road 31.

At the same time, a 24-year-old Wadsworth, Ill. man driving a pickup truck and towing a trailer was traveling north on State Road 31, approaching the intersection of Bermont Road.

As they approached, the SUV driver failed to stop for a red traffic signal as the pickup entered the intersection.

The front of the SUV collided with the right side of the pickup.

After the crash, the pickup truck traveled into a water-filled ditch and collided with a concrete light pole.

The SUV driver was pronounced deceased on the scene. The pickup truck driver reported minor injuries to the FHP.

The crash remains under investigation.

 

The FHP did not release the names of the drivers involved in the crash.
