Updating Breaking News: Motorcyclist dies after two-vehicle collision in Hardee County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision in Hardee County last night that resulted in the death of a motorcyclist.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 8:34 am, a 40-year-old Arcadia man operating a motorcycle was traveling south on the outside lane of US-17 (SR-35), south of Sterner Road.

At the same time, a pickup truck driven by a 53-year-old Zolfo Springs man was traveling south on US-17 (SR-35), south of Sterner Road, directly in front of the motorcycle.

As they approached, the front left of the motorcycle collided with the rear right of the pickup truck.

After the collision, the motorcyclist became separated from the motorcycle, sustained serious injuries, was transported to Lakeland Regional Hospital, and was later pronounced deceased.

According to the report, the pickup truck driver did not report any injuries to the FHP.

The FHP did not release the names of the motorcyclist or the driver involved in the collision.
