Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision in Collier County last night that resulted in the death of a driver and multiple injuries.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 9:18 pm, a sport utility vehicle driven by a 66-year-old Naples man was traveling east on the center lane of County Road 846 (Immokalee Road), approaching the intersection of Woodcrest Drive, ahead of the second vehicle.
At the same time, a 48-year-old Naples woman also driving an SUV was traveling east on the right lane of Immokalee Road, approaching the intersection of Woodcrest Drive.
As both vehicles entered the intersection, the first SUV abruptly turned from the center lane into the right lane of Immokalee Road, directly in front of the second vehicle, and they collided.
After the collision, the first vehicle overturned, and its driver was pronounced deceased on the scene.
The second SUV driver and two passengers sustained injuries and were transported to an area hospital.
The crash remains under investigation.
The FHP did not release the names of the drivers or passengers involved in the crash.
