Breaking News Overnight: One dead, three injured after two-vehicle collision in Charlotte County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision in Charlotte County last night that resulted in the death of a driver.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 7:22 pm, a 73-year-old Venice man driving a sedan was traveling south on Biscayne Drive.
 At the same time, a 47-year-old Port Charlotte man driving a pickup truck was traveling west on State Road 776 (El Jobean Road) in the left lane.

As they approached, the sedan attempted a left turn towards eastbound State Road 776 (El Jobean Road) directly into the pickup truck's path.

As a result, the two vehicles collided.

After the collision, the sedan traveled off the roadway and collided with a traffic sign located on the median of State Road 776 (El Jobean Road).

The sedan driver was pronounced deceased on the scene. A passenger in the sedan (a 72-year-old Venice woman) sustained serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital.

The pickup driver and a passenger (a 39-year-old Port Charlotte woman) reported minor injuries to the FHP.

 

The FHP did not release the names of the drivers or passengers involved in the crash.
