Breaking News Overnight: One dead, one seriously injured after vehicle collides with scooter in Levy County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision last night in Levy County that resulted in the death of a passenger.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 10:20 pm, a scooter driven by a 41-year-old Trenton man was traveling north on US-19 in the right lane. At the same time, a sedan driven by a 28-year-old Branford woman was traveling north on US-19 in the right lane, approaching the scooter from the rear.

As it approached, the sedan struck the scooter's rear section with its front section.

The rear passenger of the scooter (a 41-year-old Gainesville woman) sustained fatal injuries during the crash and was pronounced deceased on the scene by Levy County Fire Rescue. The scooter driver was transported to Shands UF, suffering from serious injuries. The driver of the sedan did not report any injuries to the FHP.

The crash is under investigation.

The FHP did not release the names of the drivers involved in the crash.
