Breaking News Overnight: Driver dies after a two-vehicle collision in Hernando County

Posted

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision last night in Hernando County that resulted in the death of a driver.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 11:32 pm, a Dodge Charger, driven by a 25-year-old Spring Hill man, was traveling northbound on Mariner Boulevard.

At the same time, a Ford Mustang, driven by a 48-year-old Spring Hill woman, was traveling northbound on Mariner Boulevard ahead of the first vehicle.

As they approached, the first vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and performing multiple lane changes after fleeing from Pasco Sheriff’s Deputies.

As the first vehicle overtook the second, the driver lost control of the vehicle, which collided with a curb near Lindsay Drive, then was redirected into the travel lane and collided with the rear of the second vehicle, which rotated to a final rest along the southbound shoulder.

The first vehicle rotated north until colliding with a concrete retaining wall at the entrance to Seven Hills Plaza, at which point the unrestrained driver was ejected from the vehicle.

Transported to an area hospital, the first driver later died from injuries suffered during the crash. The second driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital.

The incident closed Mariner Boulevard until 5:00 AM.

The FHP did not release the driver's name involved in the crash.
