A Tampa man was arrested on a DUI manslaughter charge after his car struck a pedestrian waiting at a bus stop Tuesday evening, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

The crash happened at about 7:40 pm near 56th Street North and Pitch Pine Circle. Troopers said a Chevrolet sedan driven south on 56th Street by 33-year-old Benny Bruce Wallace went onto the shoulder, hit a culvert and became airborne.

The car struck a 49-year-old Tampa woman at a bus stop at the northwest corner of the intersection, then hit a Toyota sedan stopped on Pitch Pine Circle. The Toyota was driven by a 42-year-old Tampa man.

The woman was taken to a hospital with serious injuries and later died. Troopers determined Wallace was impaired and arrested him on a DUI manslaughter charge. FHP did not provide the pedestrian’s name or describe any injuries to the two drivers in the report.
