Breaking News Overnight: Driver dies after a fiery two-vehicle collision in Hernando County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision this morning in Hernando County that resulted in the death of a driver.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 2 am, a Volkswagen Jetta, driven by a 27-year-old Zephyrhills woman, was traveling southbound on Treiman Boulevard. 

At the same time, a tractor-trailer, driven by a 47-year-old Georgia man, was traveling northbound on Treiman Boulevard. 

North of Belt Drive, the first vehicle crossed into the northbound lane and collided with the second vehicle.  

Following the collision, the tractor-trailer caught fire and burned intensely.  Both drivers, as well as a 52-year-old Georgia woman traveling as a passenger in the second vehicle, were transported to area hospitals.  The driver of the first vehicle later died from injuries suffered during the crash. 

 The FHP did not release the names of the drivers or passenger involved in the crash.
