Updating Breaking News: Two-vehicle head-on collision in Gilchrist County kills driver

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision in Gilchrist County this afternoon that resulted in the death of a driver.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 4 pm a Nissan Rogue driven by a 46-year-old Tampa man was traveling west on State Road 26. At the same time, a Ready Mix Truck driven by a 26-year-old Gainesville man was traveling east on SR-26.
As they approached, the first driver passed another vehicle that was directly in front of him. During his passing maneuver, the vehicle was driven into the oncoming path of the Ready Mix Truck, where a head-on collision occurred.
The first vehicle came to final rest on the north grass shoulder of SR-26. After the initial collision, the truck also traveled onto the north grass shoulder, overturning on its right side.
The driver of the first vehicle was pronounced deceased on the scene. The second vehicle's driver did not report any injuries to the FHP.
The FHP did not release the names of either driver in the crash.
