From the Florida Highway Patrol
Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision yesterday in Union County that resulted in the death of a driver.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 4:04 pm Monday, a van driven by a 37-year-old Glen St. Mary's man was traveling southbound on State Road 121.
At the same time, a tractor-trailer driven by a 37-year-old Alachua man was traveling northbound on State Road 121.
For unknown reasons at this time, the van driver failed to maintain his lane and veered into the northbound travel lane.
Consequently, the left side of the van collided with the left side of the tractor and its trailer. The van was redirected onto the west grass shoulder, where it came to final rest facing a southerly direction. The tractor-trailer traveled off the roadway onto the east grass shoulder and came to final rest facing a northerly direction.
According to the FHP report, the van driver suffered fatal injuries. The tractor-trailer driver did not report any injuries to the FHP.
The FHP did not release the names of either driver involved in the collision.
This is a breaking news story and may be updated if more details are known.
