Updating Breaking News: Two-vehicle collision in DeSoto County County kills driver

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision yesterday in DeSoto County that resulted in a driver's death.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 5:22 pm, a sport utility vehicle driven by a 63-year-old Port Charlotte woman was traveling south on County Road 769, south of SW Lipe Road. At the same time, a truck tractor driven by a 29-year-old Port Charlotte man was traveling north on County Road 769, approaching SW Lipe Road.

As they approached, the SUV crossed the centerline, and the front left of the SUV collided with the front left of the truck.

As a result, the SUV driver was pronounced deceased on the scene from the injuries she sustained in the crash.

The second driver did not report any injuries to the FHP.

The FHP did not release the names of either driver involved in the collision.

The crash remains under investigation.
