Updating Breaking News: Two dead, three injured after a three-vehicle collision in Hillsborough County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a three-vehicle collision last night in Hillsborough County that resulted in the death of two passengers.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 6:03 pm, a Hyundai Sonata driven by an 87-year-old Palm Harbor man was traveling westbound on Ambleside Boulevard.  At the same time, a Kia Optima, driven by a 22-year-old Sun City man, was traveling northbound on US-301, while a GMC Acadia, driven by a 53-year-old Gibsonton man, was traveling southbound on US-301. 

At the intersection of the two roadways, the first vehicle proceeded into the path and was struck by the second vehicle. Post-impact, the first vehicle rotated and collided with the third vehicle.

Two women from Palm Harbor, ages 82 and 60, traveling in the rear seat of the first vehicle, suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash. The drivers of the first two vehicles suffered minor injuries, as well as a 23-year-old Palm Harbor man riding in the first vehicle, according to the FHP report. 

The driver and two passengers of the third vehicle did not report any injuries to the FHP/

The FHP did not release the names of the drivers or passengers involved in the collision.
