Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision in Sarasota County yesterday that resulted in the death of a driver and passenger.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 3:39 pm, a 48-year-old Ohio man driving a Toyota Camry was traveling north on Interstate 75 in the area of mile marker 203.
At the same time, a 69-year-old Pensacola man driving a Nissan Pathfinder and transporting a female passenger was also traveling north on Interstate 75, in the area of mile marker 203.
For an unknown reason, the first vehicle collided with the second.
After the collision, the second vehicle traveled off the roadway and collided with a tree.
The driver and passenger in the first vehicle were pronounced deceased at the scene.
The first vehicle driver, Fred Matthew Donalson, was placed under arrest on scene for DUI Manslaughter and booked into the Sarasota County Jail.
The crash remains under investigation.
The FHP did not release the names of the other driver or passenger involved in the crash.
