Updating Breaking News: Three dead in two-vehicle crash in Sumter County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision in Sumter County this morning that resulted in three fatalities.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 3:56 am this morning, a sedan driven by a 42-year-old Winter Haven man was traveling southbound on State Road 471, south of South Grade Road in Sumter County. At the same time, a sedan driven by a 42-year-old Lima (Ohio) woman was traveling northbound.
The first vehicle entered the northbound lane for unknown reasons, and the two vehicles collided nearly head-on.
After the crash, the two vehicles rotated to final rest in the northbound lane and east shoulder, respectively.
Both drivers suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash. Both passengers in the second vehicle were transported to area hospitals, where one of the passengers later expired from injuries suffered during the crash.
The FHP did not release the names of the drivers or passengers involved in the collision.
