A 28-year-old Marion County man surrendered Friday in connection with an alleged street race that caused a fatal crash near Ocala, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Cesar Ramon Estrada Garcia turned himself in to FHP troopers at the Marion County Jail at approximately 9:12 a.m. Aug. 14. His charges stem from an Aug. 8 crash on Southwest 49th Avenue near Southwest 82nd Place in Marion County.

FHP said Estrada Garcia was racing another vehicle before the collision. A 77-year-old woman riding in the rear-left seat of a second vehicle was killed, while that vehicle’s driver and front-right passenger were injured.

Estrada Garcia, who was identified by investigators as the driver of Vehicle 1, faces charges of vehicle homicide and racing on highways. He is also charged with reckless driving causing serious injury, reckless driving causing injury and reckless driving causing property damage.

The other alleged participant, 21-year-old Misaiah Mike Enriquez of Marion County, was driving a red BMW identified as Vehicle 3, according to FHP. Investigators said Enriquez fled after the crash.

The U.S. Marshals Task Force later arrested Enriquez in Miami. He is being extradited to Marion County to face charges of vehicular homicide, fleeing or eluding law enforcement at high speed, and reckless driving. A racing-on-highways charge remains pending.

The charges are allegations, and both men are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

FHP said the investigation remains active and additional charges could be filed.
