A 43-year-old St. Petersburg man died after his electric bicycle collided with an SUV Thursday afternoon in Pinellas County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 3 pm on 131st Street North, just north of 102nd Avenue North.
According to FHP, a 37-year-old Seminole woman was driving a Jeep Wagoneer southbound on 131st Street North while the e-bike rider was traveling northbound along the west shoulder of the roadway.
Investigators said the bicyclist entered the southbound lane, directly into the path of the Jeep. The SUV struck the e-bike rider, who suffered serious injuries in the collision.
The rider was transported to an area hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The driver of the Jeep was not reported injured.
The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
