Breaking News Overnight: Two-vehicle collision in Suwannee County kills driver

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision last night in Suwannee County that resulted in the death of a driver.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 8:55 pm, a 51-year-old Colorado Springs man driving a Mack Truck struck the overpass of County Road 136 with the lift box elevated and became lodged under the overpass.

At the same time, a 67-year-old man from Hawkinsville, GA, driving a Ford Bronco sport utility vehicle, struck the lodged lift box and caught on fire.

The SUV driver was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced deceased as a result of his injuries. The passenger of the Ford Bronco, a 68-year-old Hawkinsville woman, was transported to the hospital with serious non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Mack dump truck was not injured.

The FHP did not release the names of the drivers or the passenger involved in the collision.
