Updating Breaking News: Plane crashes on Interstate 75 in Collier County

On Friday, at approximately 3:12 pm, the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a reported plane crash on southbound Interstate 75 at mile marker 106, Collier County. During the incident, two vehicles traveling south on Interstate 75 were damaged.
Vehicles Involved:
- 2015 Chevrolet Silverado Pickup Truck – The driver (Male, 48 years old of Naples) sustained minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital.
- 2023 Nissan Armada SUV – The driver (a Female, age 66, of Massachusetts) and two passengers (a Female, age 85, of Massachusetts) / (a Female, age 31, of Massachusetts) – did not sustain injuries.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is the lead investigative agency. FHP remains on the scene, assisting with the investigation.
ROAD CLOSURE UPDATE:
- The northbound Interstate 75 lanes of Interstate 75 remain open. As a reminder, per Florida Statute 316.1945, stopping on a limited access road (Interstate 75) is not permitted unless a vehicle is disabled or necessary to render aid.
- The southbound Interstate 75 lanes remain closed as the scene investigation/cleanup continues.
For southbound travel, please avoid the area and seek an alternate route.
