Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision yesterday in Hernando County that resulted in the death of a driver and passenger.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 1:49 pm, a Ford Focus, driven by a 72-year-old Nobleton man, was traveling eastbound on SR-50.
At the same time, a tractor-trailer, driven by a 66-year-old Waterloo, Iowa man, was traveling westbound on SR-50.
At the intersection of US-301, the first vehicle turned left into the path of the second vehicle and was struck by it.
The tractor-trailer driver was uninjured during the incident. However, the first driver suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash. A passenger traveling in the first vehicle, an 86-year-old Bushnell woman, also suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash.
The FHP did not release the names of the drivers or passengers involved in the crash.
