Updating Breaking News: One dead, three seriously injured after head-on collision in Hernando County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision yesterday in Hernando County that resulted in the death of a passenger and injuries to three others.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 4:57 pm, a Hyundai Elantra, driven by an 18-year-old Orlando man, was traveling northbound on Citrus Way. 

At the same time, a Hyundai Accent, driven by a 17-year-old male from Weeki Wachee, was traveling southbound on Citrus Way. 

South of Kensington Road, the first driver lost control and entered the southbound lane, colliding nearly head-on with the second vehicle. 

A passenger traveling in the second vehicle, a 47-year-old Weeki Wachee woman, suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital, where she later died. 

A passenger traveling in the first vehicle, a 15-year-old male from St. Petersburg, suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital. 

Both drivers suffered serious injuries and were transported to an area hospital.

 The FHP did not release the names of the drivers or passengers involved in the crash.
