Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a three-vehicle collision yesterday in Hillsborough County that resulted in the death of a passenger.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 12:30 am, a Chevrolet Camaro, driven by a 22-year-old Brandon woman, was traveling southbound on US-301.
At the same time, a GMC Terrain, driven by a 64-year-old East Meadow, New York man, was traveling northbound on US-301.
North of Jackson Road, the first vehicle crossed the centerline and collided with the second vehicle nearly head-on.
Upon impact, the vehicles rotated to final rest in the northbound lane of US-301 and the roadway shoulder. A third vehicle, a Toyota Camry, driven by a 31-year-old Ruskin man, was traveling northbound on US-301 and collided with the first vehicle after the initial crash.
Following the collision, the second vehicle caught fire, and responding Hillsborough County Deputies helped remove the driver from the vehicle. A 64-year-old female passenger, and the spouse of the driver, was unable to be removed from the burning vehicle and suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash.
All three drivers suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to area hospitals.
Any witnesses to this incident are asked to call *FHP (*347).
The FHP did not release the names of anyone involved in the collision.
