Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a three-vehicle collision in Collier County yesterday that resulted in the death of a driver.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 3:03 pm, a 22-year-old Bonita Springs man driving a sedan was traveling west on Oil Well Road approaching a stop sign at the intersection of State Road 29.
At the same time, a 31-year-old Lehigh Acres man driving a sport utility vehicle and transporting a 30-year-old Lehigh Acres woman was traveling south on State Road 29, at the intersection with Oil Well Road, and a 53-year-old Naples man driving a semi truck-trailer was traveling north on State Road 29, south of Oil Well Road.
As the three vehicles advanced, the sedan driver disregarded the stop sign and collided with the SUV. After the crash, the second vehicle rotated and collided with the semi-truck-trailer.
The driver of the second vehicle sustained critical injury and was transported to an area hospital, and later pronounced deceased.
The passenger in the second vehicle sustained serious injury and was transported to an area hospital.
The crash remains under investigation.
The FHP did not release the names of the drivers or passengers involved in the crash.
