A 54-year-old North Port woman was killed Saturday morning after losing control of her SUV during a crash on Interstate 275 in Manatee County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The fatal crash occurred at approximately 10:08 am near mile marker 5 on westbound Interstate 275.

According to FHP, the woman was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe westbound in the left lane behind a 2025 Chevrolet Suburban driven by a 28-year-old Palmetto man.

Investigators said the Tahoe accelerated and moved into the right lane to pass the Suburban. After completing the pass, the Tahoe abruptly returned to the left lane, cutting in front of the Suburban.

As the Tahoe merged back into the left lane, its left front collided with the right front of the Suburban, troopers said.

Following the impact, the Suburban traveled onto the inside grass shoulder and struck a guardrail. The driver and an adult passenger, along with three juvenile passengers, were not injured.

The Tahoe's driver overcorrected to the right after the collision, according to FHP. The SUV rotated onto the outside grass shoulder, overturned multiple times, and ejected the driver.

The North Port woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
