Updating Breaking News: Motorcyclist dies after collision with pickup in Charlotte County

Posted

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision in Charlotte County yesterday, resulting in a motorcyclist's death.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 2:50 pm, a pickup truck driven by a 42-year-old North Port man was traveling north on Collingswood Boulevard, approaching Elmwood Avenue.

At the same time, a 42-year-old North Port man riding a motorcycle was traveling north on Collingswood Boulevard behind the pickup (another vehicle not involved in the crash was also traveling north on Collingswood Boulevard, traveling between the pickup and motorcycle).

As they approached, the pickup slowed and began to turn left onto Elmwood Avenue.

As the pickup slowed to turn left, the motorcycle entered the southbound lane of Collingswood Boulevard in an attempt to pass the pickup, and they collided.

The motorcyclist sustained serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The crash remains under investigation.

The FHP did not release the name of the driver or motorcyclist involved in the crash.

This is an update of breaking news and may be updated again if more details are known.
