Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a three-vehicle collision Sunday in Pinellas County that resulted in the death of a driver.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 9:57 pm, a Chevrolet Silverado, driven by a 37-year-old Musella, Georgia man, was traveling southbound on I-275 along the Howard Frankland Bridge.
At the same time, a Ford F550, driven by a 45-year-old Tampa man, was performing work within an active construction zone at the 34 Milepost.
As he approached, the first driver failed to yield to the construction workers, entered the work zone and closed lane, and collided with the second vehicle.
Debris from the impact struck a third vehicle, a Nissan Titan, driven by an 18-year-old Largo man, that was also traveling southbound on I-275.
The first driver suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash.
The driver of the third vehicle reported no injuries to the FHP. The driver of the second vehicle and two other construction workers aboard the Ford F550 suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to an area hospital.
The FHP did not release the names of anyone involved in the collision.
