Updating Breaking News: FHP searching for driver in fatal hit-and-run crash involving moped rider in Pasco County

Investigators say an older-model black Chevrolet pickup struck and killed a Zephyrhills man before fleeing the scene

The Florida Highway Patrol is asking for the public's help in identifying the driver of a pickup truck involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a moped rider in Pasco County.

According to investigators, the crash occurred on September 29, 2025, at approximately 8:52 p.m. on State Road 54 east of Lamar Road.

Troopers said a 55-year-old Zephyrhills man was operating a moped eastbound on SR-54 when he overtook and struck a 55-year-old Zephyrhills pedestrian who was walking eastbound ahead of him.

The collision caused both men to be thrown to the ground. The pedestrian fell onto the roadway, while the moped rider was ejected from the vehicle.

Investigators say a second vehicle, described as a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, was also traveling eastbound on SR-54 and struck the moped operator after he was thrown into the roadway.

The rider suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to FHP, the driver of the pickup truck did not stop and fled the scene following the crash.

Troopers have described the vehicle as an older-model black Chevrolet pickup truck, believed to be from the 2000 model year. The driver is described as a white female between 30 and 40 years old.

The identity and condition of the pedestrian were not immediately released.

Florida Highway Patrol investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has information about the vehicle or driver to contact *FHP (*347) or Crime Stoppers at **TIPS.

The investigation remains ongoing.
