Updating Breaking News: FHP arrests hit-and-run suspect after a two-vehicle collision in Sarasota County

Posted

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision in Sarasota County yesterday that resulted in a hit-and-run arrest.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 4:40 pm, a Porsche Panamera was traveling north on US 41, approaching Osprey Point Drive.

At the same time, a Ford Edge driven by a 76-year-old Westfield, New Jersey woman was stopped, facing north, on US 41, at the intersection of Osprey Point Drive, for a red traffic signal.

As it approached, the Porsche failed to decrease speed, and the front of the vehicle collided with the rear of the Ford.

After the collision, the driver fled the scene in the Porsche. During the investigation, it was determined that the Porsche driver exhibited signs of impairment before fleeing and possibly had plans to fly out of state the next morning.

With the assistance of the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office, Sarasota Port Authority, and Sarasota Airport TSA, the Florida Highway Patrol was able to apprehend the Porsche driver at the airport on April 11th as he attempted to fly back to his home state of Montana.

The Porsche driver, identified as Steven T. Sigourney, age 53, of Big Sky, Montana, was placed under arrest by State Troopers and booked into the Sarasota County Jail for leaving a crash scene involving property damage and reckless driving.

The FHP did not release the other driver's name involved in the crash.

This is an update of breaking news and may be updated again if more details are known.
