Breaking Morning News: Driver dies after a head-on collision with wrong-way driver in Hardee County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision in Hardee County this morning that resulted in the death of the driver.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 3:02 am, a 29-year-old Arcadia woman driving a sport utility vehicle was traveling south (the wrong way) on the inside northbound lane of US-17, south of East Broward Street.

At the same time, a 31-year-old Wauchula woman driving an SUV was traveling north on the inside northbound lane of US-17, approaching East Broward Street. As a result, the two vehicles collided head-on.

The driver of the second SUV was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash.

The driver of the first SUV sustained injuries and was transported to an area hospital.

Two passengers in the second SUV sustained injuries and were transported to an area hospital.

The crash remains under investigation.

The FHP did not release the names of the drivers or the passengers involved in the collision.
