Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a single-vehicle collision yesterday in Polk County that resulted in the death of a driver.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 6:30 p.m., a Toyota Tundra driven by a 76-year-old Polk City man was traveling westbound on SR-400, west of SR-557, near the 47-milepost.
The driver suffered a medical emergency, lost control of the vehicle, and entered the center median. Once in the median, the vehicle struck a cable barrier and came to a final rest.
Transported to an area hospital, the driver later died.
The FHP did not release the driver's name involved in the collision.
