Updating Breaking News: Driver critically injured after two-vehicle collision in Charlotte County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision in Charlotte County last night, resulting in a driver suffering critical injuries.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 6:45 pm, a 24-year-old Ft. Myers man driving a sedan was traveling south on US 41, on the outside lane, south of Acline Road.
At the same time, a 73-year-old Arcadia woman driving a sport utility vehicle made a right turn from a private driveway and began to travel south on US 41, on the outside lane.
As they approached, both vehicles attempted to make a lane change onto the inside lane. The front right of the sedan collided with the left rear of the SUV.
After the impact, the sedan traveled off the roadway, overturned and ejected the driver. The SUV rotated and came to rest on the west shoulder.
The sedan driver sustained critical injuries and was transported to an area hospital. The SUV driver did not report any injuries to the FHP.
The crash remains under investigation.
The FHP did not release the name of the drivers involved in the crash.
