Updating Breaking News: Driver arrested for DUI after being clocked at 91 mph in a 40 mph zone in Lee County

Posted

A Lehigh Acres man was arrested late Saturday night after Florida Highway Patrol troopers say he was driving more than twice the posted speed limit while impaired on State Road 82.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the traffic stop occurred at approximately 11:50 p.m. on April 11 near Ford Street in Lee County.

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol stopped a 2023 Nissan Altima after it was recorded traveling 91 mph in a 40 mph zone.

The driver, identified as La Vaughn Andretti Williams, 34, of Lehigh Acres, showed signs of impairment during the stop and failed field sobriety exercises, according to the report. Authorities said Williams admitted to consuming four to five shots of whiskey prior to driving.

Williams was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and dangerous excessive speed—more than 50 mph over the posted limit. Troopers reported his blood alcohol content at .237, nearly three times the legal limit in Florida.

He was transported to the Lee County Jail following the arrest.

The Florida Highway Patrol continues to emphasize the dangers of impaired driving and urges motorists to plan ahead and never get behind the wheel under the influence.
