Updating Breaking News: 20-year-old motorcyclist dies after crash on State Road 54 in Pasco County

A 20-year-old Tampa man died Saturday after his motorcycle collided with an SUV at an intersection on State Road 54 in Pasco County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at approximately 3:10 pm at the intersection of State Road 54 and Player Drive.

According to FHP, the Tampa man was riding a Kawasaki motorcycle westbound on State Road 54 at a high rate of speed as a Chevrolet Suburban, driven by a 53-year-old New Port Richey man, was traveling eastbound.

Troopers said the Suburban turned left at the intersection of Player Drive, entering the path of the oncoming motorcycle.

The motorcycle struck the SUV, causing critical injuries to the rider.

The motorcyclist was transported to an area hospital, where he later died from injuries sustained in the crash.

The driver of the Chevrolet Suburban was not reported to have suffered injuries.

The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
