Updating Breaking Morning News: Head-on collision in Union County kills passenger, injures two

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision this morning in Union County that resulted in the death of a passenger.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 5:17 am, an 18-year-old Glen St. Mary man driving a sedan was southbound on SR-121, north of SR-16.

At the same time, a 49-year-old Ocala man driving a tractor-trailer was northbound on SR-121.

The sedan crossed the centerline in a curve as they approached and collided head-on with the Tractor trailer.

A passenger in the sedan (a 21-year-old Lake Butler woman) was pronounced deceased on the scene.

Both drivers were transported to UF Health Gainesville. The sedan driver was listed in critical condition, while the tractor-trailer driver reported minor injuries.

The FHP did not release the names of the two drivers or the passengers involved in the collision.
