Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a three-vehicle collision this morning in Putnam County that resulted in the death of two drivers.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 7 am, a 34-year-old Live Oak man driving a sedan was traveling eastbound on State Road 100 east of Roberts Lane.
At the same time, a 30-year-old Palatka man driving a sedan and a 38-year-old Palatka woman driving a sport utility vehicle were both traveling westbound on SR 100 east of Roberts Lane.
As they approached, the second vehicle was traveling in front of the SUV. The driver of the first vehicle exited the eastbound lane and traveled into the westbound lane, sideswiping the second vehicle's left side, then struck the SUV's front.
The first vehicle came to final rest, obstructing the eastbound lane of SR 100, facing northeast. The second vehicle came to a final rest on the north grass shoulder in the tree line, facing southeast. The SUV came to final rest on the north grass shoulder facing northwest.
According to the FHP report, the driver of the first and third vehicles suffered fatal injuries, while the driver of the second vehicle reported minor injuries, and a passenger in the third vehicle (a 12-year-old male from Palatka) experienced serious injuries.
The FHP did not release the names of the drivers or the passenger involved in the collision.
