Updating Breaking News: 90-year-old driver dies after a two-vehicle collision in Manatee County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision yesterday in Manatee County that resulted in the death of a driver.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 8:20 am a sedan driven by a 90-year-old Lakewood Ranch man was was stopped, facing north, for a red traffic signal on River Club Boulevard.

At the same time, sa sport utility vehicle driven by a 33-year-old Bradenton woman was traveling east on the left lane on State Road 70, approaching a green traffic signal, at the intersection of River Club Boulevard.

As they approached, the first vehicle proceeded north into the intersection against the red traffic signal, and the front of it collided with the right side of the SUV.

The first driver sustained serious injuries, was transported to an area hospital and later pronounced deceased.

The crash remains under investigation.

The FHP did not release the name of the drivers involved in the crash.
