Breaking News Overnight: Motorcyclist hit and killed by vehicle in Manatee County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision last night in Manatee County that resulted in the death of a motorcyclist.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 9:05 pm, a sedan driven by an 81-year-old Bradenton woman was traveling north on US 41 (14th Street West) on the left turn lane, approaching a yellow traffic signal at the intersection of Florida Boulevard.

At the same time, a 50-year-old Phoenix, AZ man riding a motorcycle was traveling south on US-41, on the inside lane, approaching the intersection of Florida Boulevard.

In an attempt to proceed westbound on Florida Boulevard, the sedan made a left turn in front of the approaching motorcycle, and the two vehicles collided.

The motorcyclist was pronounced deceased on the scene. A passenger on the motorcycle, a 56-year-old North Port woman, sustained serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital.

The crash remains under investigation.

The FHP did not release the names of the drivers or passengers involved in the crash.
