Breaking News Overnight: Pedestrian hit and killed by SUV in Charlotte County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a collision in Charlotte Couty last night that resulted in the death of a pedestrian.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 9:53 pm, a sport utility vehicle driven by a 71-year-old Port Charlotte man was traveling north on US-41 just south of West Ellicott Circle.
At the same time, a 47-year-old Port Charlotte man was crossing the northbound travel lanes of US 41.
As they approached, the front of the SUV collided with the pedestrian, who sustained critical injuries, was transported to Fawcett Hospital, and later pronounced deceased.
The crash remains under investigation.
The FHP did not release the names of the driver or pedestrian involved in the collision.
