Breaking News Overnight: Pedestrian hit and killed by SUV in Hillsborough County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a collision last night in Hillsborough County that resulted in the death of a pedestrian.
According to the FHP report, after spotting a dog on Dale Mabry Highway north of Idlewild Avenue, at approximately 10:25 pm, a 25-year-old Tampa woman stopped her Kia Optima and exited to render aid to the animal.
As the woman approached the dog, a 69-year-old Tampa man driving a Toyota RAV4 sport utility vehicle struck both the dog and the woman.
The woman and dog both suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash.
The FHP did not release the names of the driver or passenger involved in the collision.
