Breaking News Overnight: One dead, two injured in single-vehicle collision in Charlotte County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a single-vehicle collision in Charlotte County last night, resulting in a passenger's death.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 11:45 pm, a 2005 Ford Ranger driven by a 61-year-old North Ft. Myers man and transporting a  52-year-old North Ft. Myers man and a 34-year-old Cape Coral woman, was traveling north on Interstate 75, south of US-17, in the center lane.

According to the report, the left rear tire blew out, and the driver lost control of the vehicle, which traveled off the travel lanes right and overturned.

The right front passenger (the North Ft. Myers man) was ejected, transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, and later pronounced deceased. The second passenger (the Cape Coral woman) suffered serious injuries. The driver reported minor injuries to the FHP.

The crash remains under investigation.

The FHP did not release the name of the driver or the passengers involved in the crash.
