A 34-year-old North Port man was killed Friday night after his car collided with another vehicle and then struck a tree along Interstate 75 in Sarasota County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 8:51 pm near Mile Marker 177.
According to the FHP report, a Chevrolet Impala and a Toyota were traveling in the outside northbound lane of I-75, with the Toyota ahead of the Impala.
Troopers said the Impala driver failed to stop or slow down. The front-right portion of the Impala collided with the left-rear portion of the Toyota.
Following the initial collision, the Impala traveled off the roadway and struck a tree.
The Impala’s driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The Toyota’s driver, a 31-year-old Homestead man, was not injured.
The investigation remains ongoing.
