Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision this morning in Manatee County that resulted in the death of a motorcycle rider.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 3:22 am, a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, operated by a 17-year-old male from Bradenton, was traveling east on State Road 70 (53rd Avenue East) approaching a steady red traffic signal located at the intersection of Caruso Road.
At the same time, a Chevy Sedan driven by a 52-year-old Bradenton woman was traveling west on State Road 70 (53rd Avenue East) lawfully turning south (left turn) onto Caruso Road on a steady green traffic signal.
As they approached, the first vehicle entered the intersection and struck the right front of the second vehicle.
The driver and passenger (a 16-year-old male resident of Bradenton) of the motorcycle were separated from the vehicle during the initial collision.
The driver was transported to Blake Hospital in Critical condition.
The passenger was pronounced deceased on scene by Manatee County E.M.S.
The Florida Highway Patrol Traffic Homicide Unit continues to investigate this traffic crash.
